Self-Love According to Tarot

The cosmos are aligned in the pursuit of love. Although this strongly relates to romantic love and sensual passion, the energy can affirm acts of self-love too. To make the best of this time, tarot can become a valuable tool to better understand one’s journey in self-love.

There are so many ways that you can use your trust tarot deck to discern your current state of self-love! Before deciding on how to use your deck, you should begin by setting the scene. Preparing for a self-love spread could be doing something that makes you feel incredible, like taking a soothing bath or centering yourself in meditation. Whatever it is, choose something that makes you feel not only centered but loved. Heading into your reading with the right state of mind can make all of the difference! Afterward, clear and cleanse your space. You should pull cards where you feel the most comfortable, hopefully with your favorite crystals nearby or incense burning. Once you feel energetically aligned, you can either pull intuitively or follow a spread.

Intuitive pulls can be fantastic as they can be guided with a simple inquiry or point of reflection. You can read the cards as they come out according to what you may have asked. If you choose to do an intuitive pull, you could focus on “self-love” as a general reference for the reading. Questions to further hone in your tarot reading could be perfect as well! Consider focusing on the following questions; What is my most recent lesson in self-love? What did I learn from my last experience that challenged the love I have for myself? What is something I struggle with? How can I deepen the love I have for myself?

But intuitive pulls aren’t for every reader! Sometimes, a spread can be the perfect way to go especially if you are pulling for a self-love shadow-work check-in. Consider using a 3-card spread that represents the past, present, and future of your self-love journey. Although simple, it can help you gauge the overall state of your self-love journey! You could even pull one additional card from the top and bottom of your deck to signify advice as you move forward.

Regardless, there are ideal cards to get in a self-love spread to indicate being on the right path! Positive major arcana cards to receive an intuitive affirmation that you are doing well would be The Magician, The Empress or Emperor, The Sun, The Star, and even Judgment. Ideally, all of these cards would relay the message that you are leaning into the journey of self-love with an open mind and hopeful heart. Minor arcana cards would be the Kings and Queens (depending on what energy you resonate with), 10 of Cups, 10 of Pentacles, 9 of Cups, and 9 of Pentacles. Aces and knights could even signify taking action in a new chapter for self-improvement as well!

If you are at a pivotal point in your self-love journey, then you may receive The Fool, Death, Tower, Judgment, and even the World. All of these cards would indicate some sort of massive turning point. In the minor arcana, you may receive a knight or page which could reiterate the desire to take steps towards self-love. Other minor arcana cards like the 10 of Swords, 10 of Wands, 9 of Wands, 8 of Swords, and the 8 of Cups may allude to overcoming an obstacle in your self-love journey. When more difficult cards come out, you can always use these as a point of reflection to better understand what you may have to work on or pay attention to.

By the time you conclude your tarot reading, you should have a clear perspective of the next steps to take towards genuine self-love.
