Tune in: “Total Eclipse of the Heart“
Kicking off July with a total Solar Eclipse on July 2nd at 12:16 PM! YIKES! Talk about an astrological mess. Then again, it is Cancer season (it’s just a joke, don’t cry Cancer). With a total Solar Eclipse, Mercury Rx quickly approaching, and four outer planets already stationed in retrograde, we’re looking at quite the transformative, if crazy, astrological period. So, what is this phenomenon, and how can we appraise it in all the right ways?
A Breakdown of a Total Solar Eclipse
A total Solar Eclipse will occur on Tuesday at 12:16 PM. This Eclipse could arguably be viewed anywhere in the world, and those near the equator will have some of the best views. During this time, we can expect to see the Moon move in front of the sun, thus creating a “black-out” effect, similar to that of the eclipse back in 2017. Depending on your location, the eclipse may or may not seem potent from your vantage point on Earth.
Regardless of your physical viewing, it’s important to remember the astrological effects. Again, think back to the Solar Eclipse of August 2017. Back then, the Sun was positioned in Leo and the Moon in Aquarius, so fixed signs were especially affected. The energy of that day (and the period following afterward) was weird, chaotic energy.
This total Solar Eclipse will occur during Cancer season, so the Sun will be in Cancer. The astrological planets and asteroids that will play into the Eclipse will include an Rx Saturn in Capricorn, an Rx Pluto in Capricorn, and the South Node stationed in Capricorn. In other words, the Sun will directly oppose Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node AND be quincunx (inconjunct) to an Rx Jupiter in Sagittarius. Then Rx Jupiter will also square Rx Neptune. Holy. Shit.
Expect the Expected, Actually
A total Solar Eclipse will uproot everything, even the most set-in-stone plans. This is cumbersome, stressful energy as prominent details, plans, projects, relationships may fall through the cracks faster than we can handle. Although nutty and chaotic, this is the energy of “clearing out”. Can you make room for the new and the positive if you’re allowing the old and the toxic to take up your emotional, mental, and personal space?
This may seem like a chaotic uprising and revolution, but actually, it’s just what we all need. The aspects of our lives that will be destroyed, uprooted, and thrown out during the eclipse energy are the aspects we’ve probably been wary of for some time. It’s difficult to remember with an Rx Neptune clouding our judgment, so we may forget or make excuses that allow the old and the toxic to stay. But the eclipse will be an astrological vacuum, sucking up all that needs to be thrown out. In other words, expect the expected.
With this particular eclipse, we can first expect emotional baggage and blockages to be cleared out. You may feel particularly emotional during Tuesday. That’s ok! Emotionality is what makes us human, it can help re-focus what we are feeling vs what we want to feel. Not to mention, the old, stagnant emotional patterns and paradigms can be cleared for new emotional growth. We can’t keep clinging to the past, nor how the past continues to affect us. This is all represented by Cancer, the Crab. The tough shell will be broken down to get back in touch with what’s on the inside. Vulnerability is key!
Cancer rules the home, the Mother, the Divine Feminine, and family. The eclipse will ask us, “where do you want to go from here with XYZ?” The “XYZ” is up to you to decide what part(s) Cancer is affecting in YOUR life. Maybe the “XYZ” is your relationship with your family and/or the Mother/mother-like figure(s). Maybe the “XYZ” is reconnecting with the Divine Feminine energy. Maybe it’s reinventing the home, or your family you have created. Maybe it’s reinventing yourself as the Mother/Mother-like figure. Ultimately, only you will know and only you will see these effects taking place.
With the Saturn-South Node aspect, we will see illumination in our old patterns and ways. The South Node is the past, where most often feel comfortable dwelling in. Saturn, our teacher-planet, will call for responsibility, accountability, work, and boundaries when looking at the South Node. This aspect will call for us to hold ourselves accountable for the negative aspects of the South Node while growing our profound strength and power to transcend. Pluto’s energy will be active with death/rebirth – the transformative metaphysical ways of growth. Uranus will call for us to finally rebel from what’s holding us back. Uranus will be the cheerleader who encourages us to move forward. Neptune’s energy will allow us to dream without the rose-colored glasses, to see things.
Who’s Affected the MOST?!
Well, we’re all affected by each astrological occurrence. However, because this total Solar Eclipse is stationed in the cardinal water sign, Cancer, those with prominent cardinal signs in their birth charts can expect to feel the heavy nature of the total Solar Eclipse. So, my lovely cardinals Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn can expect the energy to feel exalted during this Eclipse.
Cardinal Signs (Aries/Cancer/Libra/Capricorn)
From 2018 to 2020, there is a pro-longed transformative period for all cardinal signs that are marked with trials, errors, upheavals, conflicts, losses, but all for SIGNIFICANT gains. For the next six months, the cardinal signs can expect great upheavals with the Home and the Family. There is unfinished work there. This could be broken relationships, speaking your earnest Truth, repairing your family, or a continuous flux of a physical place to call Home. The Root, Heart, and Throat chakras may be blocked. Focus on their release for peace and clarity. Cardinal signs, your cycle of growth and transformation is almost over, so make the most of it.
Fixed Signs (Taurus/Leo/Scorpio/Aquarius)
Fixed signs are on a not-so-funny seven-year path thanks to Uranus in Taurus. In other words, fixed signs can expect great instability and learning to “go with the flow”. For the next six months, there may be great financial fluxes, instability with the Home, and a continuous inconsistency with significant relationships (familial/platonic/romantic). This is uncomfortable energy for the signs who crave stability. However, with being stagnant, there is great negativity that can be held on old paradigms. Learning to roll with the punches, making lemons out of lemonade, or whatever euphemism that speaks to you will be key. Focus on your Root, Sacral (Solar Plexus), and Third Eye chakras for awakening, peering into the subconscious, and shadow-work.
Mutable Signs (Gemini/Virgo/Sagittarius/Pisces)
Unlike the fixed signs, mutable signs actually need to focus on stability and routines. The mutable signs will primarily focus on stabilizing boundaries, intentions, and goals with the Family, the Home, and significant partnerships (romantic/familial/platonic). Be demanding in these areas. There’s no need to get punched while rolling with the punches. Focus on the Heart, Throat, and Crown chakras for confidence, stability, and cultivating healthy habits.
Last Thoughts…
Expect to feel like a balloon floating without direction, or anything to stop it. There will be a loss of grounding, peace, and stability. This is okay. There’s no need to rush, ruminate, or live in the past. Explore the balloon-feeling with open-mindedness and non-judgment.
You will find your place.

Here are three tips for a solar eclipse:
– Start learning something new.
solar eclipse – even if it is a partial solar eclipse, it is a symbol of new beginnings.
– Tune in to success.
During the eclipse season, you can predict your near future that you would like to see in your life. During a solar eclipse, these desires are embedded in your subconscious, and it will be easier to fulfill.
– Spend time with your family.
